A child soldier is anyone under the age of 18 who are recruited by an armed group that are used for multiple purposes. These children are harmed, injured and killed on purpose or in some event. “The majority of child soldiers are at Burundi with 3.6 million soldiers (Robins, “Former Child Soldier”). We believe that it is wrong to make children fight in wars. These child soldiers are victims because they are used in war as fighters, cooks, suicide bombers, human shields, messengers and spies. They are forced to take drugs and fight and kill or else they’ll be killed too. Also the kids that end up being child soldiers, parents are slaughtered and kidnapped. Child soldiers are victims because they are forced to go into war, they are brainwashed, and forced to do drugs.
In foreign countries there are many children that are fighting in wars but there were more soldiers awhile ago than there are now, because people are realizing that this is a bad thing. But they used the kids because they were smaller targets and there were a lot of them to spare. The parents were killed because they didn't want them to come after them after they took their child, the parents could be more of a threat. The first reason to my claim “Child soldiers are victims” is, they are forced to go into war. Evidence to back this reason up in the author of this article “Hundreds of boys 'kidnapped and forced into becoming child soldiers' in South Sudan” states that “The boys, as young as 12, were seized from the community of Wau Shilluk in Upper Nile State, near the state’s capital Malakal, when militants searched from building to building to take them by force (Dearden, “Hundred of Boys”). More importantly having soldiers being abducted, and drugged are very sad. Child soldiers as young as 12 years old were taken away from their homes and taken away from their family. Another example that this article states is “Witnesses told monitors that many of the kidnapped children had been seen in a training camp near Wau Shilluk and that in nearby Melut, boys as young as 12 years old were seen carrying guns but not in uniform. More than a thousand men and children have been pressed into armed service in Wau Shilluk and 12,000 children were used as soldiers by armed forces and groups across South Sudan last year, according to monitoring reports (Dearden, “Hundred of Boys”). The second reason is child soldiers are brainwashed. Evidence that supports this thought is Child soldiers are manipulated and drugged to do bad things. “Over the last 10 years over 2 million soldiers have been killed in war. Over 10 million children are diagnosed with physiological trauma after war 2 (Robins, “Former Child Soldier”). Lastly, in the last 10 years 1 million children have been orphaned because their parents have been killed and when they get home from war they do not have a family anymore. Child soldiers are still used against their will in war. Another piece evidence is “I was forced literally to kill my best friend as an initiation process into the army,” Chikwanine told The WorldPost. “That’s something I will never forget, and I still fight with every single day(Robins, Former Child Soldier). Michel Chikwanine was a former child soldier, but soon he became reunited with his sister and his mom in 2004. “Chikwanine spent weeks as a child soldier with the group before he managed to escape and find his way back home through the help of townspeople who knew his family. He later escaped the conflict to a displaced persons camp in northern Uganda, and in 2004 made it to Canada as a refugee with his mother and younger sister(Robins, Former Child Soldier). The third reason is that child soldiers are forced to do drugs. In the article “once a drugged child soldier” it states that “By the time Ishmael was 12, Beah's parents and two brothers were all dead. Bloodthirsty rebels, most of them kids his own age, attacked his village of Mogbwemo, killing nearly everyone(Guthmann, Once a Drugged Child Soldier). Having kids Ishmael age and them trying to kill everyone in the village of Mogbwemo is very harsh and frightening. One year after that, Beah was recruited by the army of Sierra Leone, a former British colony on the west coast of Africa. Brainwashed by his commanders, force-fed a mixture of cocaine and gunpowder called "brown brown," Beah was transformed into a killing machine. It was madness, he says. The war started because of a plague of (government) corruption but at some point it just became a war of survival(Guthmann, Once a Drugged Child Soldier). This piece of evidence explains when Beah was recruited by the army as a 12 year old. Back to my reason number two it states in the evidence that “Brainwashed by his commanders, force-fed a mixture of cocaine and gunpowder. In conclusion, child soldiers are victims because they are forced to go into war, they are brainwashed, and forced to do drugs. In the article “Once a Drugged Child Soldier” it states that “Beah Brainwashed by his commanders, force-fed a mixture of cocaine and gunpowder called "brown brown," Beah was transformed into a killing machine. It was madness, he says(Guthmann, Once a Drugged Child Soldier). Child soldiers should not be drugged, forced to go into war as a young child, and not having to be brainwashed. All of these happen when you are a child soldier almost everyday. Martin L. King Jr. once said “But one hundred years later, the Negro is still not free. One hundred years later the life of the negro is still sadly crippled by the manacles of segregation and the chains of discrimination”. “We cannot walk alone. As we walk, we must make the pledge that we shall always march ahead. We cannot turn back”. The 1963 March on Washington, D.C. was to support President Kennedy’s legislation to protect the civil rights of all people, especially blacks. King, who addressed the crowd from the Lincoln Memorial, was one of the final speakers. Martin L. King was very determined to accomplish rights to everyone. In his speech he himself said “And when this happens and when we allow freedom to ring, when we let it ring from every village and every hamlet, from every state and every city, we will be able to speed up that day when all of God’s children, black men and white men, Jews and Gentiles, Protestants and Catholics, will be able to join hands and sin in the words of the old Negro spiritual, “Free at last! Free at last! Thank god Almighty, we are free at last”. What we don't know is what feelings and emotions people had while Martin L. King, Jr was giving his speech, and we are unable to interpret because it was not listed, is the feeling or challenges they had against the whites while he lead the civil rights march.
Martin Luther King Jr. and Malcolm x both believed in equal rights for everyone, but they had very different views on how it was going to be done. Martin Luther King Jr. believed that in order to get their rights, they must protest peacefully. While Malcolm x thought that they should fights for equal rights for Blacks but only after they gave two speeches that changed everything. Even though they had different plans to end segregation and discrimination, they both had the same idea. In Malcolm X’s speech he went into details about the government and talked very little about the people of the United States. He did mention how he wanted all religions and races to get along in the United States. He thought violence would work better than being peaceful to resolve his problem. In his speech he says, “Now I think that nobody would disagree that the dark masses of Africa and Asia and Latin America are already seething with bitterness, animosity, hostility, unrest, and impatience with the racial intolerance that they themselves have experienced at the hand of the white West.” His most famous speech was called “The Ballot or the Bullet” in 1964. In his speech he went into details about the government and talked very little about the people of the United States. He did mention how he wanted all religions and races to get along in the United States. He thought violence would work better than being peaceful to resolve his problem. Malcolm X was apart of the civil rights movement. He was sent to prison but he didn't let that effect what he was trying to accomplish. Malcolm X was born May 19, 1925 in Omaha Nebraska. He was in a family of nine. Malcolm X was assassinated on February 21, 1925 in Manhattan, New York . he was 39 when he was assassinated. “I’m still a muslim, that is, my religion is still Islam. I still believe that there is no god but Allah and that Mohammed is the opposite of Allah. That just happens to be my religion. But in the capacity I am functioning today, I have no intention of mixing my religion with the problems of 22,000,000 black people in this country…”The feelings his family and the people had while Malcolm X was in prison. Kayla excitedly hopped out of the limo because she was on her way to Disney World. “I can not wait to get there!” said Kayla. The date was October 16th, 2015 at 6:30 p.m when they landed in Florida. When Kayla and her neighbors got off the plane they went and got their luggage out of the baggage claim and went and waited for the other family that was going to stay with them at the house. It was about a two hour wait when the other family got off the plane and walked all the way to where they were meeting them. Suzi and her husband Pervis stated furiously “What is taking them so long?” And then they went and got the rental car and by the time they got everything done the other family was here and it was about 11:00 p.m by the time they left the airport to go to their house. *** It was December 11th, 2014, at about 8:30 p.m, when Kayla’s neighbors asked her if she wanted to go to Disney World with them. It was a birthday present, and they told kayla that she could open it a little bit earlier since her birthday was tomorrow December 12th. It was so exciting for everyone to know that Kayla was going with them. Of course she said yes but it was a big step for Kayla because she had never left the state of Indiana without her family by her side. The next day it was Kayla’s birthday. She got up and went immediately downstairs to open her presents and say hello to her family. When she was all done with celebrating her birthday that night she said something to her mom. “Mom, I am a little scared to go to disney world with the neighbors, but one thing is that I don't know why I am scared.” Kayla said. “Maybe you are scared because you have not left the state without your family before.” Kayla’s mom stated. *** When they got to the house in Florida everyone went straight to bed because Kayla and everyone else knew that it was going to be a long and a great day tomorrow. Kayla could here Hayden and Parker bickering back and forth with each other. They were fighting about what we are going to do tomorrow and what we were going to do first. Everyone woke up at about 7:30 a.m got dressed went downstairs had breakfast and they were out the door. It took them about 30 minutes to get to Disney World. Kayla’s neighbor Hayden the oldest one out of 4, age 6 would not stop asking if they were there yet. Parker age 5 was sleeping. Parker woke up in the car and screamed at the top of his lungs. “ I am so excited to go to Disney World!” Paxson age 2 was playing with his Mickey Mouse. He was singing the theme song of the show Mickey Mouse. “Mickey Mouse clubhouse come inside it's fun inside!” He sang. and Presley age 1 was staying home with their grandma. Suzi and Pervis the parents of the 4 children kept asking, “Kayla where do you want to go first, what do you want to do since it is your first time being here, and saying you are the guest so you get to pick!” They said. When she got out of the car Kayla could see the beautiful castle and the roller coasters across the whole park. The words that came out of Kayla’s mouth was just “Wow!” Kayla could not believe her eyes. She couldn't wait to finally get into the park, ride all the rides, and have fun with her neighbors. The first park they went to was the Magic Kingdom. The Magic Kingdom had a bunch of things to do roller coaster rides, meet all of the characters in Disney, and be able to go and just walk around and see everything in the gift shops. At night they were watching all of the fireworks go off, listening to music, and having lots and lots of fun with everyone that was around them. “Today at Disney World was definitely a huge success!” Kayla stated. The second day they planned to go to Disney world again and have a second day of fun at Epcot. Epcot was definitely the best because you could walk around and taste all of this different kinds of food from all over the world. They would have spots where you could go to Italy and have pizza or gelato. Kayla tried some gelato, “The gelato is the most greatest thing that I have ever tasted.” Kayla said enthusiastically. You could also go to Germany and see what they had. It was fun because you would learn about their culture and have tasted different kinds of food that you have never tasted before. That night they had fireworks so once again they watched them but while they were watching them they also got to shop in the gift shops and while they were shopping Kayla’s neighbor Suzi bought her a little necklace that said Kayla on it. “Thank you so much Suzi!” Kayla said excitedly. Kayla didn’t know how she was going to make this up for her. It was so thoughtful of her to do that. After the firework show and they were done shopping they went to their house and went straight to bed because it was very late. To top the greatest fall break ever everyone decided to go to The Magic Kingdom again because they had so much fun the first time. Kayla’s neighbors decided to hire a chauffeur to walk them around the whole entire park and get into the fast pass lanes so they could get on rides faster. “We should go on the first roller coaster we see so it is fair for everyone and it will be easier!” Kayla proclaimed. The one thing that they loved was when hayden and kayla were able to go somewhere by themselves and go on big rides because the rest of them were to scared. Kayla and Hayden went on a bunch of rides and went and had some lunch and then met up with everyone. The day was practically over and they could not believe that it was going to end, everyone was having so much fun. The park was closing soon so they all went back to the house and got packed. They were all ready to leave in the morning at 5:00 a.m because their plane was taking off at 7:00 a.m. When Kayla woke up that morning she got dressed, brushed her hair, and her teeth got in the car and they were off. Kayla said to Suzi and Pervis, “ Do we really have to leave” she said loudly. “Yes Kayla we do” As soon as they left the house Kayla missed it more than anything The palm trees she would walk under everyday when she strolled outside. The pretty sunrise she would watch come up as she was sitting there by the pool listening to the birds chirp and the crickets making noises. She missed it, and she missed everything about it. |
